Scale dependency of lidar‐derived forest structural diversity

چکیده

Lidar-derived forest structural diversity (FSD) metrics—including measures of canopy height, vegetation arrangement, cover (CC), complexity and leaf area density—are increasingly used to describe characteristics can be infer many ecosystem functions. Despite broad adoption, the importance spatial resolution (grain extent) over which these metrics are calculated remains largely unconsidered. Often researchers will quantify FSD at grain size process interest without considering scale dependency or statistical behaviour metric employed. We investigated appropriate inference for eight lidar-derived metrics—CC, relief ratio, foliar height diversity, index, mean median outer rugosity (RT)--representing five categories—canopy CC, density, complexity. Optimal was determined using representative elementary (REA) concept whereby REA is smallest extent. Structural were increasing (from 5 1000 m) from aerial lidar data collected nine different forested ecosystems including sub-boreal, broadleaf temperate, needleleaf dry tropical, woodland savanna systems, all sites part National Ecological Observatory Network within conterminous United States. To identify each metric, we changepoint analysis via segmented piecewise regression identifies significant changepoints both magnitude variance metric. find that a between 25 75 m sufficiently captures across multiple types 30–150 metrics. However, differences evident among with higher necessary characterize CC in evergreen forests, deciduous broadleaved forests. These findings indicate range sizes inferences drawn this set metrics, informing use research management applications.

Enforcing Structural Diversity in Cube-pruned Dependency Parsing

In this paper we extend the cube-pruned dependency parsing framework of Zhang et al. (2012; 2013) by forcing inference to maintain both label and structural ambiguity. The resulting parser achieves state-ofthe-art accuracies, in particular on datasets with a large set of dependency labels.

Temperature mediates continental-scale diversity of microbes in forest soils

Climate warming is increasingly leading to marked changes in plant and animal biodiversity, but it remains unclear how temperatures affect microbial biodiversity, particularly in terrestrial soils. Here we show that, in accordance with metabolic theory of ecology, taxonomic and phylogenetic diversity of soil bacteria, fungi and nitrogen fixers are all better predicted by variation in environmen...

Latent Dependency Forest Models

Figure 1: All possible pairwise dependencies between the three variables and a root node. Each dependency has a weight and only the dependencies with non-zero weights are shown. The weight ws|xi , which is the probability of generating a stop node given the assignment Xi = xi is not drawn for simplicity, but it can be computed using the normalization condition discussed in the LDFM-S subsection...

Species Diversity of Trees and Forest Floor Plants in Oriental beech Forest Types of Shastkalate Educational and Research Forest, Gorgan)

Trees are the most important biological elements of forest ecosystems. The variability of the tree species composition inhabiting in the Oriental beech forest, not only forms different forest types but also has a remarkable impact on the species diversity of forest floor plants, due to the existence of trees in the overstory layer. In this research, forest types of an an Oriental beech were ide...

The impact of fire on the forest and plants diversity in Iranian Oak forest

Fire, as a natural ecological disturbance factor in forest, this study located in the Marivan region, Northern Zagros forest, and western Iranian state of Kurdistan. In each burned and unburned area 30 circle sample plot (1000 m2) were collected by randomized–systematic method in the 100×200 m net (in total 60 plots). In every sample plot the kind of species, number of tree, the heig...
